Can non-resident drivers attend Driver CPC courses in the UK?

Yes, non-resident drivers with a driving licence from the EU, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Iceland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Switzerland can attend Driver CPC courses in the UK. They must present valid photo ID, such as their driving licence, passport, digital tachograph card, or Driver CPC card. They can obtain a GB Driver CPC card if they complete the final 7 hours of their periodic training in England, Scotland, or Wales and live or work in those areas.

Can I repeat the same Driver CPC course within the 5-year period?

Generally, repeating the same Driver CPC course within the 5-year timeframe is not allowed. However, exceptions exist for maintaining specific qualifications (e.g., ADR), remedial training after incidents, adapting to significant regulatory changes, or fulfilling a justifiable need approved by the training provider and JAUPT. Unnecessary repetition is discouraged, and the DVSA may cancel hours from repeated courses, potentially leading to the loss of your Driver CPC card.

What happens if I miss my Driver CPC training deadline?

Missing your Driver CPC training deadline has severe consequences. It becomes illegal to drive professionally, and you could face fines of up to £1,000, prosecution, a driving ban, and job loss. There's no grace period, and you might need additional training. Your case could be reported to the Traffic Commissioner, impacting your driving career. In case of an accident without a valid CPC, your insurer might refuse coverage, leaving you financially liable.

Can I complete my Driver CPC training while disqualified from driving?

Yes, you can still attend Driver CPC courses even if you are currently banned from driving. This helps maintain professional qualifications, prepare for your return to driving, and potentially reduce your ban length by completing a Drink Drive Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS) course. However, you cannot drive professionally until your ban is lifted and you have a valid Driver Qualification Card (DQC).

What forms of photo ID are required for a Driver CPC course?

When attending a Driver CPC course in the UK, you must present one of the following forms of photo ID: a photocard driving licence, a valid passport, a digital tachograph card, or a Driver CPC card (DQC). If you bring a document that doesn't display your driving licence number, you must know it, as it's required for recording your training hours.

How can I check my Driver CPC hours?

You can track your Driver CPC hours and progress towards the 5-year renewal online via the government's Driver CPC periodic training hours checking service: https://driver-services.dvsa.gov.uk/cpcode/flow/user?execution=e2s1.

You'll need to register using your driving licence number and home postcode. After receiving your password by post, you can log in to view your completed hours, course history, card renewal date, and create a temporary password for your employer.

Are Driver CPC courses interactive?

Yes, Driver CPC courses in the UK are interactive, whether delivered in-person or remotely. This involves active participation through methods like videos, quizzes, case studies, demonstrations, and group discussions. Remote courses require two-way communication where trainers and drivers can see each other throughout the session. This interactive approach ensures engagement, enhances learning, and verifies attendance for certification.

Can I complete the 35 hours of Driver CPC training online?

Yes, you can complete the 35 hours of Driver CPC training entirely online. Virtual classroom settings via webinars or video conferences are permitted. However, you'll need a suitable device like a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with a camera, microphone, speakers, and stable internet connection. Smartphones may not be allowed by all providers due to their small screen size. Note that while e-learning modules are permitted, PSV Compliance & Training currently does not offer them.
