Exciting news for drivers is on the horizon! With the much-anticipated guidance from the government released on November 13th, we now have clarity on the reformed Driver CPC Courses set to roll out on December 3rd this year. So, what does this mean for you behind the wheel?
International Driver CPC
For our PSV and HGV drivers involved in international work, your requirements remain unchanged. You'll still need to complete 35 hours of CPC training every five years, with each course being a minimum of 7 hours long. Good news, though! You can continue to take these courses in segments of 3.5 hours over a 24-hour period, just like our popular split evening courses. You can book your CPC Courses here
National Driver CPC
If you’re a Bus, Coach, or Truck driver focusing solely on UK routes, you'll now have access to the National Driver CPC Course. This revamped option offers more flexibility for you and your company when it comes to scheduling and completing training. You still need to fulfil that 35-hour CPC requirement over five years. However, unlike the international courses, you won't have to split your training into 7 hours over a 24-hour timeframe; instead you can complete 3.5 hour blocks over a longer timeframe.
Another fantastic development is the expanded use of E-Learning! You can now complete up to 12 hours of E-Learning toward your 35 hours of training, all from the comfort of your home or workplace. We’re excited to see how this will complement our national CPC courses in the months ahead.
Return to Driving
Looking forward to February 2025, there are even more changes in store for those wishing to return to professional driving after their Driver CPC has expired for 60 days to 2 years. This group will benefit from a streamlined 7-hour return to driving course, allowing you to get back on the road within the UK. Within 12 months after this course, you’ll need to complete an additional 28 hours of Driver CPC learning, whether through national or international pathways.
Of course, if your Driver CPC has been expired for over 2 years, you’ll still need to complete all 35 hours of training, but you’ll have the freedom to choose between national and international courses.
In Summary
In summary, while you still need to complete 35 hours of CPC training over a five-year period, we will continue offering international CPC Courses and don’t have any plans to limit ourselves to UK-only courses. We’re committed to enhancing training standards and ensuring our CPC Courses are tailored to meet your everyday needs. And rest assured, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
We’re also excited to introduce a new online community next month! This will be a space for you to ask questions, seek advice on routes, understand how infringements occur, and stay updated on all aspects of driving and job opportunities in the field.
Together, let’s make your Driver CPC Course experience more than just a tick-box exercise. Join us on this journey towards better training and a supportive community!
